Ombre Hair Colouring

Looking for a new, dramatic look? In the French language, ombré literally means “shadow” or shade. In general, with an ombre look, there will be a dark section on the top half of your hair and a lighter section on the bottom half. In most cases, the dark section is usually your natural hair colour while the bottom section of your hair is lightened.

To do this, our hairstylists will fully saturate the lower section of your hair with a lightener and then blend it upwards. We here at Utopia are experts at this dramatic, two-toned hair color and can create this style in any colour of your choosing. Just ask one of our expert stylists and we can answer any questions you may have about the ombre technique.

Balayage Hair Colouring

Looking for sun-kissed, blended hair colour? Balayage is a hair colouring technique wherein your qualified hair stylist will directly hand-paint colour onto your hair without the use of foil.  Because of this technique, balayage hair colouring will give a more subtle look than the more traditional foil.

Balayage highlights also do not completely saturate your hair in hair dye or bleach. As a result, you'll enjoy healthier, silkier, and softer hair due to less processing. Balayage is also unique in that it requires less maintenance than a traditional colour hair dye, so you don’t have to make frequent hair salon appointments just to keep this style looking good.  In fact, depending on your hair style and personal preferences, you can go up to four months between touch-ups.

Custom Hair Colouring

As a rule of thumb, you should get your hair professionally dyed in a salon if you’re looking to go two shades darker or two shades lighter than your natural colour.  Whether you are looking for a full head of custom colour or for a simple root touch up job, our team of colour experts will help you achieve your desired look.

Our professional yet friendly hair stylists are Schwarzkopf-certified, which means they are trained to give you the most vibrant hair colours. After all, Schwarzkopf hair colour works superbly both in darkening and lightening hair.  Many people who wish to achieve a true blonde look especially love the work of our Schwarzkopf-certified hair stylists.

Hotheads® Hair Extensions

We rely on Hotheads® Hair Extensions to help deliver superior hair extensions to all our customers. Thanks to their convenient and versatile nature, these extensions can be used to achieve a range of classic and trendy looks. The superior user experience provided by these extensions converts even reluctant users into lifelong fans.

Once our specialists are done attaching the extensions, you will fall in love with how natural and organic they feel. Maintaining our hair extensions is almost as easy as taking care of your own hair. Simply brush them twice a day to get rid of any tangles and refrain from using appliances like blow dryers, hair curlers, and hair irons to keep them healthy.

Touch-Up Appointments

One of the best ways to repair and/or prevent damaged hair is to have it trimmed on a regular basis. A trim stops split ends from unravelling and damaging your hair further. While shorter hair should be trimmed more often for styling reasons, it is important to trim your hair every 8-12 weeks at minimum, regardless of length.

Of course, you should also maintain the health of your hair on a regular basis. In other words, you should use shampoo and conditioner that contain natural products such as shea butter, argan oil, or coconut water. Using a hair serum or oil on occasion can also work wonders against dry and damaged hair.

Take Care of Your Hair

In order to have healthy and shiny hair in between appointments, it is important to take proper steps to care for your hair on a daily basis. For example, you should use quality shampoo and conditioner, along with a nice, clean brush to keep everything in place. That said, if you have coloured, chemically treated, or bleached hair, you don’t want to shampoo your hair on a daily basis, and should instead tick to three times a week if possible.

Your hair is one of the first things people notice about you. A stylish haircut or a major hair transformation will get you the attention you deserve. Although reasons for changing hairstyles vary, bold and great-looking hair that highlights our best features is on top of everyone’s list. Whether it’s hitting a milestone in life, a breakup, changing careers, or simply feeling adventurous, there are questions you want to ask your hairstylist first. We want to be sure your new look has you setting the trends and have compiled the questions to help you change things up right. How Will a Big Haircut Change My Styling Routine? Whatever your current styling routine entails, a major haircut will require a change in your styling procedure. An experienced hairstylist will tell you what you need to do to achieve your desired look. Whether it’s a meticulous blowout or simply adding some product and letting it air dry, be aware of the amount of skill required, and the time and effort you’re willing to put into the daily styling regime. How Can We Make My Hairstyle More Tailored to My Face Shape? There are eight basic shapes of faces: oval, round, square, long, heart, diamond, triangle, and rectangle. Your facial features, shape, and hair type will determine whether you’ll look better with a textured or blunt cut, a centre or side part, or with or without bangs. To make sure you’re choosing a flattering hairstyle, your hairstylist will balance these elements to get the look that suits you best. Will This Hairstyle Take a Long Time to Style? Shorter dos can sometimes be more high-maintenance if you’re used to pulling your long hair up into a ponytail or messy bun. When speaking with your hairstylist, be upfront about your preferences in terms of hair routine, lifestyle, and expectations. Knowing if your new look will require more tools and skills will also help you and your stylist make the best choice for your lifestyle and needs. What Products are Required to Maintain This Look? Different hairstyles require different products and tools with some needing barely any at all. Leaving the salon with the right products will make a big difference when recreating the look at home. Ask your hairstylist about the products they use to style your hair. If you’re used to using nothing more than shampoo and conditioner, be prepared that shorter, sleeker styles will require new products to maintain the look you want. When Should I Schedule My Next Appointment to Maintain This Look? How often you get your haircut depends on the hairstyle and your hair’s natural texture. The longer your hair is, the longer you can go between cuts to maintain your look with the average being every three to four months. Very short styles may need cutting every two to three weeks, but your hairstylist will know the optimum length of time to keep your hair looking healthy and chic. One of the significant concerns of a woman’s life is her hair. They are always worried about “How to grow hair faster.” It does get frustrating when you’ve tried everything, but your hair won’t grow to the length you want it to. Months and years go by tending your hair, and it still won’t get past a few inches. If you are trying to grow your pixie cut into long hair, read on to find and follow a few simple steps to increase your hair growth. Eat A hair-friendly Diet And Check Your Protein Intake If you want healthy hair, then you need to let go of your unhealthy diet. Instead, eat a diet rich in the necessary proteins required for hair growth. Moreover, if you have been cutting on protein because of dieting, you must avoid such dieting at all costs. It will deprive you of nutrients and resources needed for hair growth. Restrictive dieting puts your body under a lot of stress. So, even when you resume a healthy diet, it may take months to recover from the harm that’s already done. Consider Hair-Growth Vitamins You have already harmed your body by the restrictive dieting, so now you must intake hair-growth vitamin supplements. Certain multivitamin supplements, such as Viviscal and Biotin, promote hair growth. These products are rich in Vitamin D and C that are essential for hair growth. However, before including these vitamins in your diet, you must consult your doctor for proper dosage and confirm whether it clashes with any medication. Rinse Hair With Cold Water Most of us love hot showers and avoid cold water at all costs. However, leaving hot water in your hair can be harmful to your hair. So, before getting out of the shower, rinse your hair with cold water. It will smoothen out your hair to prevent the heat from penetrating the strands. In addition, blasting your hair with cold water for a couple of minutes can create healthier hair that will grow faster. Choose The Right Hair Products Using the right hair products is important to maintain the health of your hair. You may want to try caffeine-induced products as they boost the energy level of your scalp and boost hair growth. Besides this, use hair masks weekly. This will give your hair extra nourishment with the punch of all the vital nutrients your hair requires. It will strengthen your hair and promote hair growth. Moreover, using castor oil in your hair can make your hair more healthy. While you are using the right products for your hair, ensure that you avoid using too much shampoo. Only shampoo your hair two to three times a week, so you don’t dry it out. It can make your scalp itchy, leading to hair fall. Cut Back On Heat Tools And Use Heat Protectant Products Styling your hair with hot styling tools can rid your hair of its moisture and make it dry. However, no matter how many heat protectant products you use, styling your hair with heat regularly will take away the effectiveness of those products. So, cut out the heat tools from your routine and do minimum heat hair styling. Change Up Your Hairstyle To Promote Growth Many girls have the habit of tying their hair into a ponytail. However, when you pull your hair back into a tight updo or ponytail, it increases the risk of hair breakage. You may also damage your strands, keeping them pulled back so tightly. So, instead of using ponies, clips, or pins in your hair, let your hair down. Changing your hairstyle will relax your hair and allow it to grow out fast, healthy and long. Get Your Hair Services From Utopia Hair Studio Today! You might have exhausted your hair, ridding it of its natural moisture. However, you don’t need to worry, Utopia Hair Studio has got your back. We have been providing trendy and classic hair services to our clients without damaging their hair and promoting hair growth. A lot of us spend time every morning shading and perfecting the shape of our eyebrows. Some of us do not spend a day without doing our eyebrows, even if we are not wearing any more makeup. It’s no wonder since eyebrows are one of the most prominent facial features that help to frame the face and express ourselves. Having perfect eyebrows does not have to involve a time-consuming task in our daily lives. Microblading has become very popular because it has changed the daily routine for the better of those who chose to try it. This article answers the most frequently asked questions about Microblading to provide an overview of the procedure. What is Microblading? You may have heard the term and seen microblading before and after photos, but do not really know what the treatment is. Put simply, it is a form of cosmetic tattoo that is semi-permanent. Using a handheld tool, your esthetician will create hair-like strokes to softly shade your eyebrows for a natural look. The pigment is implanted beneath the skin through tiny needles. Does Microblading Hurt? Topical anesthetics are applied to minimize any possible discomfort. Most people describe the pain as quick paper cuts or minor pressure, but everyone's pain tolerance is different. How Long Does Microblading Take? The thickness of the brows will impact how much needs to be done to give the desired results, which therefore varies the time it takes. Typically, your first microblading appointment will take approximately 2-3 hours and any touch-ups will take 1-2 hours. What Can You Expect After the Appointment? Right after your session, the colour of your eyebrows will look very bold, and the area may be swollen. This will improve within a few days. You will have mild soreness, crusting, and itching that can last up to 10 days. As the crusted pigment falls off, your new, perfect eyebrows will be revealed. The colour will have faded to a more natural shade as intended. Your esthetician will discuss microblading aftercare with you to ensure that your eyebrows heal properly. You will be told how to properly clean the area and a balm may be given to you to assist the healing process. For 7-10 days after the microblading session, you should avoid intense physical activity, excess sweating, and extreme heat. You will also be asked not to wear makeup on your brows and your forehead for at least 30 days following the procedure. After your eyebrows have healed, it is recommended to choose to thread rather than waxing, as the latter may cause the pigment to fade faster. Threading will give you a clean shape without causing harm to your skin. How Long Does It Last? The results of microblading last an average of 1-3 years. Several factors affect the length of time before the pigment fades, such as sun exposure, products that are used in the area, aftercare, iron deficiencies, age, and skin type. It is recommended to have touch-up sessions to refine the shape and replace any pigment as required. During your follow-up sessions, you may choose how bold or soft, and how defined or natural you want your eyebrows to be. Contact Us Today Are you eager to make your morning routine easier by having eyebrows that are always ready to go? It’s important to choose the right esthetician to have the best experience and results. At Utopia , we are attentive to your natural brows, skin type, and face shape to give you the eyebrows that suit you best. Contact us on (403) 346-7377 or online .

If you’re considering eyelash extensions , then you might have been scared away by all sorts of horror stories. Maybe a friend told you that their natural eyelashes were permanently ruined, or you read an online article about extensions irritating your eyes. Whatever it is, these stories may make you rethink getting those extensions. However, the truth is there are many misconceptions about eyelash extensions that are floating around out there. Today, we’re going to debunk some of these beauty salon myths, so you can get the eyelashes of your dreams without fear or uncertainty. Myth 1: Eyelash Extensions are Uncomfortable and Can Cause Irritation Some people have complained that eyelash extensions are uncomfortable and irritating. If you use the services of a trained professional, though, this shouldn’t be an issue. The extensions and adhesive that are used to place them are never supposed to touch the skin of your eyelid, which means they shouldn’t cause any irritation to your eye or eyelid. Properly applied eyelash extensions should never interrupt your hair’s natural growth cycles either, meaning they won’t pull out your natural eyelashes prematurely. And when it comes to irritation? The simple fact is that if your eyelash extensions are attached properly, then you shouldn’t feel them at all. Myth 2: Eyelash Extensions Can Destroy Your Natural Eyelashes Many who consider eyelash extensions fear that the adhesive used can damage the natural lashes beneath the extension. This isn’t necessarily unfounded; excess adhesive can stress your lashes and pull them out prematurely. However, this will not be an issue if your lash technician is a qualified and experienced professional. It’s also important to remember that natural eyelashes falling out is not a sign that the extensions are causing damage. Your eyelashes go through different phases of growing, shedding, and regrowing, just like every other hair on your body. Myth 3: It’s Hard to Wash Your Face With Eyelash Extensions Some believe that water needs to be avoided when you have eyelash extensions, but, of course, that isn’t true. It’s probably a myth born out of the aftercare rules for eyelash extensions. For the first few hours after getting your extensions, we recommend that you don’t wet your lashes. However, after 24 hours, you will be able to resume your normal washing routines without worrying about your lashes. After that point, good-quality extensions are not going to be damaged or detached by a few drops of water. Myth 4: All Eyelash Extensions Look the Same A quality eyelash extension will be customized to match your natural eyelashes, particularly their length and thickness. It simply isn’t feasible for a beautician to use the same sets of extensions for every client. For example, someone with thin, fine, or short lashes won’t be able to wear the same heavy-duty extensions, such as Xtreme lashes, that someone with thicker, longer eyelashes can. The other criteria that dictate what eyelash extensions a customer receives include eye shape, eyebrow colour, hair colour, and eye sensitivity. For all of these reasons, it simply doesn’t make sense for any beautician to use only one kind of eyelash. A quality practitioner will always choose extensions based on the unique needs of their customers. Some of these misconceptions about eyelash extensions can actually occur. However, they aren’t the result of extensions and are more so the result of a poor application by unskilled technicians. What you should take from these myths is that it’s very important to get your lash extensions done by a skilled professional. Problems like these are so easy to avoid as long as you do the necessary research first! If you’re looking for excellent lash extension services in Red Deer, our experienced team of technicians at Utopia Hair Studio is here to help. Give us a call at +(403) 346-7377 to discuss your options, or fill in our online contact form and we’ll get back to you.

Did she just come back from an amazing beach vacay or is it balayage? We are seeing this trend everywhere for a good reason. Balayage creates an effortless result that clients love. It is a look that suits everyone and requires minimal maintenance. Balayage is for you to be “that girl with great hair”. Here we discuss everything you need to know before joining this trend. What Is Balayage Hair? The balayage hair colouring technique mimics the natural highlights that a sunny vacation gives off. The term comes from the French word ‘balayage’ which translates to ‘sweeping’. By hand-painting highlights onto the hair, your colourist creates a soft multi-tonal look that has dimension. Compared to traditional highlighting techniques, it does not give stripy results. The tones are well-blended through the hair to look natural. That celebrity on the red carpet with sun-kissed hair? That is very likely the result of balayage! How Is Balayage Applied? The technique is customizable to achieve the final look that you want. Depending on your preferences and how often you will get touch-ups, your colourist will apply a lighter colour by painting sections. Light strokes are used close to the roots which get more saturated towards the tips to recreate the way that the sun lightens the hair. There are different methods of the balayage technique. Colourists have their own application preferences, for example, when dividing the hair into sections. Variations in the technique may be according to what you are looking for, as little adjustments can vary the result. What all good balayage hair has in common is perfect placement and blending. Why Is It so Popular? The balayage technique has been popular on the red carpet for years, celebrities with the best hair looks are rocking the trend. A simple search on social media platforms for “2021 hair trends” floods the screen with balayage hair . This method is customizable to the hair colour, texture, cut, style, and skin tone. The placement and colour can be tactically applied to enhance each client’s features to give unique results. Balayage provides a tailored look and therefore, suits everyone. It is easier to maintain than other hair colouring techniques. A well-blended colour that is softer at the crown is more forgiving to grown-out roots. By maintaining the colour, you can wait longer between appointments. How Long Does It Last? A softer regrowth line and good maintenance can extend a balayage. It is good to discuss the frequency at which you will touch up the colour with your colourist so that the process can be customized for you. A good balayage can last six to eight months. How Do You Maintain It? Even if a balayage needs less upkeep, proper maintenance can keep your hair looking fresh. A hair care routine for colour-treated hair or purple shampoo for those with a blond balayage will help to keep the colour and balance out the tones. To have a healthy look, a hydrating mask will keep the hair soft and shiny. A refreshing gloss in between colouring sessions will keep the hair’s vibrancy and tones alive, without being time-consuming or damaging. Book Your Appointment Today! A balayage hair colour will give you a natural sun-kissed look. Customizable to your facial features, hair colour, texture, and style, it is a great choice to achieve the best result for your hair. To learn more about the process, schedule an appointment at our studio in Red Deer. Call us at 403-346-7377 or fill out our contact form .

Summer has finally arrived. What better way to celebrate it by trying out a new look?! Changing up your style is a great chance to bring some colour into your life, set the mood for this summer, and make it unforgettable. Changing your wardrobe, buying new clothes, new shoes, new accessories - we’ve all been there and done that. But let’s talk about something more substantial here, like a new hairstyle or haircut. Changing a hairstyle you’ve had (most likely) most of your life might just be the start of a great adventure. And here are some ways you can do that: Lose Some Length Ask yourself, what hairstyle you’ve always wanted but were too afraid to try? Usually, women who’ve had their hair long for many years are the ones who secretly dream of a short haircut so they could style those short bangs that are super trendy in 2021. Afterall, shorter hair is easier to style. There are so many hairstyles for women with short hair and so few for women with long hair. So, maybe now’s the perfect time to lose some length and try out a new, shorter hairstyle. Give it a Boost of Colour Changing the colour of your hair (when done the right way) can add some contrast to your appearance, while boosting your own colour will give some more dimension to your hair. However, before changing the colour of your hair, you should talk to a knowledgeable hairdresser who will take into account your complexion. You don’t want to seem washed-out or too harsh. Find a New Style Even if you decide not to cut your hair short, trying a new hairstyle will refresh your appearance. You will find great hairstyles for women on the web. Easy hairstyles, cute hairstyles, whatever the end goal is, you can find it online and take it to your hairdresser to show exactly what you want. You may find there are fewer long hairstyles for women than those with short hair. However, if you decide to cut your hair short, you should also not rush into it and talk to a hairdresser who will advise you on the perfect haircut based on your face shape. A hairstyle can either make or break an impression. You don’t want to accentuate your least favourite facial features, and instead emphasize the ones you feel make you most attractive. An expert hairdresser can help you with that. Switch Up Your Products Sometimes switching up products you use can reveal how useless the ones you were using before. By sticking to only one set of products, you’re also depriving yourself of the chance to come across some great products that can enhance your visual appearance and keep your hair healthy and shiny. So, switch up your products every now and then. Especially when something new comes up that receives praise from hair care experts, you should try it. Utopia Hair Studio knows exactly what you want. Any kind of hair service you want, be that hair colouring, hair extensions, changing your hairstyle or even barbering for men - they can do it. Highly appreciated in Red Deer, Alberta, their expert and courteous staff will attend to your needs and help you find the best cute hairstyles and easy hairstyles that will match your face and enhance your visual appearance. They also offer other beauty services for women, such as eyelash extensions and microblading for more definition in your eyes and eyebrows. To reach them, you can fill out the form on their website or call at 403-346-7377.
